Grässlin Solution for Safety in the Drinking Water and Sanitary Industry: EVONIK’sTrogamid® Withstands Dynamic Pressure Fluctuations
In the drinking water sector, filter bells are safety-critical components of many water filtration systems. They are under constant pressure and must function reliably for many years. Material failure can cause significant water damage, which—especially in systems installed in basements—is often not noticed until it is too late. This makes it all the more important to select a material that retains its properties over the long term, even under demanding operating conditions. WithTrogamid® CX7323 from Evonik, Grässlin Kunststoffe offers a transparent, microcrystalline PA12 that was specifically developed for applications involving high dynamic pressure cycling. This high-performance plastic is therefore particularly well-suited for filter bells, filter housings, and other pressure-loaded components in the plumbing and drinking water sectors.
“The reality for our customers in the drinking water and plumbing industry shows that when it comes to water filtration systems, it’s not just the transparency of a material that matters, but above all its long-term performance,” explains Grässlin Managing Director Thomas Bücker: “Filter bells are often installed in hard-to-reach locations and are expected to function reliably for many years.Trogamid® CX7323 offers a high degree of reliability for this purpose and helps prevent costly consequential damage caused by material failure.”
“A failure can cause significant water damage, which is often not detected until it is too late. That is why, when selecting materials for use in the plumbing and drinking water sectors, customers prioritize not only transparency but, above all, safety and durability. Trogamid® CX7323 has all the necessary approvals for applications involving contact with drinking water and meets, among other standards, the requirements of KTW-BWGL, DIN EN 16421, WRAS, and ACS. As a result, this high-performance plastic offers manufacturers of water filters and plumbing components a reliable foundation for durable products with maximum operational safety,” confirms Dr. Dominic Störkle, Product Line Manager for Long-Chain Polyamides at Evonik.
Compared to amorphous PA12 materials,Trogamid® CX7323 exhibits greater ductility and a microcrystalline structure that effectively prevents the formation of stress cracks. In addition, the material offers high chemical resistance as well as excellent UV and aging resistance.
Trogamid® meets strict European standards for applications involving contact with drinking water
Independent measurements confirm thatTrogamid® CX7323 achieves a significantly higher number of cycle life cycles to failure under dynamic pressure cycling loads ranging from 0 to 38 bar than comparable amorphous PA12 materials. As a result, the material offers a particularly high level of safety for components that must function reliably for ten years or longer.Trogamid® CX7323 has all relevant approvals for applications involving contact with drinking water in accordance with KTW-BWGL, DIN EN 16421, WRAS, and ACS. It also meets the requirements of the Europe-wide Drinking Water Directive (DWD), which will take effect next year. The material thus already offers long-term planning reliability.
As an Evonik distributor, Grässlin Kunststoffe supports manufacturers of water filters, sanitary components, and water treatment systems in selecting materials and ensures a reliable supply of this high-performance plastic. This gives processors access to a material that combines transparency, long-term durability, and high pressure-cycle stability, laying the foundation for durable products in the drinking water sector.
